The City of Asheville is seeking a full-time Assistant General Manager to join the U.S. Cellular Center team to oversee all events and facility operations. An employee in this position performs administrative and supervisory work in overseeing the operations of the U.S. Cellular Center Events, Engineering, Maintenance and Production Divisions. The Center's annual operated budget is $4 million. Work involves managing all personnel within the given divisions, relationships with contractors, vendors, clients and the general public. Employee must exercise independent judgment, discretion, and initiative in completing assignments. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with City officials, client and employees and the general public. Work is performed with considerable independence under limited supervision of the U.S. Cellular Center General Manager and is evaluated through observation, conferences, review of work performed, efficiency of staff and public approval.
This is an exempt position working 37.5 hours per week. Must be willing to work event schedules including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Schedules, supervises, hires, disciplines and coaches all staff in the facility’s events, engineering, maintenance and production divisions.
Overall responsibility for all event operations; advance and execute client needs for all events.
Coordinate event client needs within assigned divisions while working with Ticket Office and Food & Beverage teams per event contract.
Direct responsibility for day to day operation of the building. manage and coordinate contractors, house staff, external city department support staff.
Oversee annual maintenance contracts for items such as, but not limited to; Chillers, Boilers, Elevator, POS System, CCTV, Wifi.
Shepherd house work order system, ensuring timeliness and accountability.
Allow scheduling of team members to provide a positive work-life balance in accordance with the ‘Asheville Way,’ budget constraints and event timelines.
Work with General Manager to develop annual operating budget as well as capital project budget requests.
Prepare and supply necessary backup documentation for event settlements and invoices.
Responsibility for tracking of division related equipment inventory, preventative maintenance and depreciation.
Schedule and ensure compliance with annual inspections and updates including, but not limited to: fire safety, sprinkler system, backflow prevention, burglar alagam, cash vault access system, scrubbers/fork lifts/scissor lifts inspections, OSHA and staff trainings.
