Sixth & I is seeking a full-time Night Venue Manager, reporting to the Executive Director/CEO, responsible for managing front-of-house operations and team, and building needs and requirements, for events and classes in our 800-seat venue, social hall, and classrooms. Events include talks, concerts, comedy shows, podcasts, along with educational classes and presentations, religious services and private events. A typical work schedule for this position will be 1:00 pm – 9:30 pm across weeknights and weekends, with fluctuations earlier and later as events demand.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ensure the readiness and smooth operation of the venue before/during/after events and programs—with an eye to the highest safety standards. • Plan for and monitor the smooth and efficient entry and exit of audiences into/out of the building, including accessible entry needs. Responsible for overall customer experience and safety. • Update and maintain venue operational standards, policies, and procedures for all events, creating consistency in execution across program departments. o Work with Executive Director, key staff, and outside subject matter experts to determine security protocol and policies. o Ensure the highest standards for customer service inform all venue operations. • Foster communication between internal programming and operational departments to streamline event integration and building usage. o Plan for building needs as they relate to multiple events and programs happening simultaneously. o Ensure security guards, part-time event staff, and volunteers know, uphold, and enforce policies. • Determine security requirements for each event, in consultation with program staff. • Manage security at events: brief on details of event, assign positions, and reposition guards as events unfold. • In partnership with program staff, supervise and direct volunteers at events, whose duties including scanning tickets, handing out programs, ushering, assisting patrons, and helping to coordinate audience movement. • Schedule bartenders for events; oversee bar operations at events and reconcile finances; manage inventory of drinks. • Manage maintenance personnel and maintenance issues at events. • Primary contact regarding front-of-house requirements and operations for each event. • Work with Operations department to inform the training of event volunteers and part-time event staff. • Perform other administrative house management duties as assigned. • Co-manage full-time Production Assistant.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor of Arts preferred.
6-8 years of venue management, public assembly, hospitality, and/or front of house experience required.
Position is nearly entirely late afternoon through evening and on weekends with the exception of a weekly day-time staff meeting.
Flexible approach to working hours and responsibilities.
Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting, climb stairs, stand for long periods of time.
CPR certification (or obtained within two weeks of employment).
Excellent ability to problem-solve operational and customer services issues and to think on your feet; make quick, sound judgment calls.
Outstanding customer service skills and decorum.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
Must be a team player with a willingness to assist individuals of varying skill levels.
Ability to self-direct, be self-sufficient, and manage competing projects simultaneously.
Ability to excel in a fast-paced and diverse working environment.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
