Utilizing independent judgment, the Director of Facilities manages, supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the venue, including but not limited to engineering, maintenance, set-up/changeovers, capital projects, custodial/housekeeping, and grounds keeping. Provides overall administrative planning, direction, and policies to operating managers, assuring the highest quality service program to assure booking/rebooking of events. Ensures an effective and cost-efficient program by controlling departmental operating budget. Provides highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager.
Oversees overall daily operation and maintenance of the arena and all systems. This includes HVAC, sound, lighting, fire protection, life safety, workplace safety, communications, scoreboard, etc.
Manages all in-facility capital projects for both the Ryan Center and Boss Ice Arena. Maintains, open lines of communications with the University Capital Projects office and follows proper University purchasing procedures and bid processes for projects.
Oversees the advancing and communicating event information to the appropriate departments and staff.
Oversight and contract negotiation for custodial services for entire facility.
Administers labor group contracts (IATSE / Stagehands) with assistance from Director of Finance.
Ultimately responsible for installation and maintenance of ice surfaces. Director of Ice Rink oversees the day-to-day installation and maintenance of ice surfaces.
Oversees the operation of event set-up and tear-down, i.e. basketball floor, stage risers, chairs, signs, etc.
Administers and negotiates contracts with outside vendors including but not limited to pest control, scoreboard systems, seasonal landscaping and snow removal.
Acts as liaison with University Services for numerous facility related functions (University Codes, Parking, Licenses, Permits, etc.).
Supervises, hires, and trains the Operations department full time staff.
Provide performance development to the department staff which includes Facilities Engineer, Production Manager, Operations Manager and part-time staff.
Responsible for Health & Safety compliance for both facilities.
Bachelor’s/Technical degree from an accredited college/university/school required.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in facility operations management including advanced experience in the running of a Division I basketball facility along with advanced experience in putting on shows, concerts, tradeshows, and entertainment events in general.
Must show demonstrated knowledge of physical plant management (boilers, chillers, refrigeration, etc), leadership and supervisory skills and experience in work crew supervision in facility operations.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule and extended hours including but not limited to working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays in addition to traditional business hours. Must be able to respond to issues as they arise, including issues that arise overnight.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications as well as the Internet.
Ability to work on multiple projects at once successfully.
Excellent communication and organization skills with the ability to engage, collaborate and coordinate with main tenant, clients, vendors and partners in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
Strong attention to detail. Must be accurate and efficient with ability to meet strict deadlines.
Advanced knowledge of budget preparation and control.
Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements.
Ability to negotiate vendor and service contracts on behalf of facilities with best interest of client
