Summary: The University of Texas at El Paso, an NCAA Division I institution and member of Conference USA, invites applications for the position of Graphic Designer within the Athletic Department’s Creative Services department. The Graphic Designer will have responsibility of serving as the primary graphic designer for UTEP Athletics, developing and implementing the athletic department’s graphic appearance, designing graphics and imagery for all athletically related materials and projects, provide design elements for various social media platforms, and ensure the use of UTEP logos and marks for athletics purposes are consistent with university brand standards and guidelines. The Graphic Designer will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Creative Services and will be an integral member of the creative services team.
Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: •Serve as the primary graphic designer for the UTEP Athletics Department. •Design graphics content for all athletics marketing and promotional print materials (posters, schedule cards, etc.), athletics social media platforms, the official athletics website and other athletically related projects; Create graphic templates as needed and maintain a library of graphic templates for use by sport programs and other units of the athletics department; Collaborate with external relations team members to conceptualize, create, and distribute strategic and cutting-edge content inclusive of graphics, video, and digital assets. •Design and produce athletic department’s primary print collateral including sport season posters, key visual components of game programs, videoboard graphics and schedule cards. •Provide design elements and support for social media strategies and content for UTEP athletic social media accounts. •Provide additional oversight and content management for UTEP athletic social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) with a strong emphasis on in-game content to maximize fan interest, fan loyalty, media coverage, fan interaction, and growth of social media followership. •Assist ticketing and marketing units in creating unique and original content to enhance ticket sales, increase fan engagement, and to promote fan experience. •Serve as a member of the creative services and video production game day operations staff in a support role as needed. •Ensure the use of UTEP logos and marks for athletics purposes are consistent with university brand standards and guidelines. •Meet deadlines and coordinating multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. •Understanding and adhere to all UTEP, C-USA, and NCAA rules and regulations. •Demonstrates self-motivation, with knowledge and strong interest in college athletics, game production, social media, and digital marketing. •Attend games and events and work extended hours, including occasional nights, weekends and holidays; Occasional travel may be required in order to perform assigned job functions. •Perform other duties as assigned. •Complies with all State and University policies. •Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.
Required Qualifications: •To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. •Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, journalism or related field. •Experience in web design and professional utilization of social media. •Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop. •Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. •Social media experience, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. •Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: Experience as a graphic designer in a professional or college sports setting.
