Augustana University, after recently announcing a goal of transitioning to Division I intercollegiate athletics, invites applications for the opportunity of Director of Athletics Annual Giving.
Located in the growing and vibrant city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota (with metro area of roughly 250,000 people), Augustana University has, for more than 150 years, provided a strong student-centric education based on its five core values: Christian faith, liberal arts, excellence, community and service. Currently with 19 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community. Consistently ranking in the top twenty of the Learfield Directors’ Cup for all of Division II, Augustana announced the approval by the Board of Trustees in December, 2018 of AU: Vision 2030 which will guide the university going forward. The goal of transitioning to Division I intercollegiate athletics is part of that vision.
The director is a member of a team of professionals within a dynamic and growing athletics program. Under the direct leadership of the Associate AD for Development/Executive Director of the A-Club, the individual will be responsible for the annual plan and execution for renewing and growing revenue and members in the A-Club, the annual fundraising arm of Augustana Athletics. He/she will also lead the plan and execution for corporate sales. This position will also identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts for the A-Club, steward Athletics donors and prospects, and be involved with all aspects of the development operation for Augustana Athletics including managing a portfolio of supporters. As a member of the Athletics team, this position will also work closely with the Athletics marketing and communications staff to coordinate a vision for Augustana University Athletics branding and awareness that will result in increased engagement with the Sioux Falls community and attendance at Augustana University athletic events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Assist in developing an annual giving strategic and operations plan including specific fundraising goals and timeline to support the Augustana Athletics programs. Implement, manage and review fundraising methods and techniques to achieve yearly goals
•Coordinate and manage the Augustana A-Club program
•Based on the plan, monitor and analyze the cost-effectiveness of individual annual fund program components
•Coordinate social media, email solicitations and messaging for the Augustana A-Club program
•Coordinate web design and content for the Augustana A-Club
•Develop and maintain proficiency in use of donor and ticketing systems to allocate seating, parking and other A-Club benefits
•Direct the activities of the A-Club and related projects and events in support of Augustana Athletics in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Executive Director of the A-Club
•Develop new sources for fund raising and revenue, including increases in annual giving from current donors and future prospects
•Develop and nurture productive relationships with donors and prospects
•Work closely with the Executive Director of the A-Club to identify funding needs and priorities and prepare them for potential development activities
•Coordinate and solicit corporate sponsorships for Augustana Athletics
•Coordinate special recognition opportunities for donors
•Work closely with coaches to begin the cultivation process of current student-athletes for future giving
•Other duties as assigned
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising
Demonstrate a passion for service excellence, integrity, a positive outlook, commitment to highest standard of donor ethics, a strong work ethic, be self-motivated and committed to high performance and dedication to the value of higher education
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, public speaking and presentation skills
Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with external constituencies and prospective donors
Knowledge of marketing and social media, and the ability to cultivate positive relationships within the university and the community
Excellent organizational skills, to include the ability to prioritize projects and meet established deadlines
Ability to be fiscally responsible with all events and hospitality expenses
Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary in the performance of assigned duties is required
Previous successful fundraising experience preferably in sports, nonprofits, or sales
Marketing experience a plus
Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
