The Drury University Department of Athletics invites applications in a national search for the position of Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs. This full-time position is responsible for the marketing, promotions, sponsorships and development activities of the athletics department in accordance with NCAA, conference and University rules and regulations while doing so in an environment that: 1) creates an atmosphere where graduation is facilitated through participation in intercollegiate athletics, 2) teaches student-athletes to be productive citizens who contribute to society for life, and 3) facilitates winning championships. The individual will also supervise the athletics media relations and ticket sales units, and other assigned staff. The incumbent may also serve as a sport administrator and perform competition management duties for assigned sports. The individual must have an athletics philosophy that values the educational and personal well-being of student-athletes while emphasizing the university and athletics department mission, vision, core values and culture. Traditional responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:
•Development – Coordinate athletics development activities involving the annual fund, major gifts, planned giving and the annual athletics auction
•Sponsorships – Coordinate sponsorship involving the fulfillment of sponsor agreements, securing new sponsors, renewing current sponsors, coordinating the placement of signage (with the facilities staff) and radio advertising
•Marketing – Coordinate marketing activities to increase attendance, season ticket sales and single game ticket sales at competitions and functions, and assist in community engagement activities
•Promotions – Coordinate the planning and execution of in-game promotions

A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, Public Relations, or related area is required, a corresponding graduate degree is preferred and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in athletics external affairs or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules
Knowledge of and ability to execute sports marketing, promotions, development and sponsorship sales techniques
Ability to manage competitions and special events
Knowledge of athletics media relations best practices
Strong public relations, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to operate public address, statistics, website, publishing, video and scoreboard systems
Ability to solicit businesses and individuals for sponsorships and donations
Sport administrator and competition management (for a variety of sports) skills and abilities
Attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the big picture
Strong organizational skills resulting in the ability to prioritize workload and meet short-term deadlines on a regular basis
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with media members, sponsors, students, faculty, staff, donors and the general public
Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
Ability to operate a computer, printer and multi-function office machine (copy, scan, fax)
Ability to supervise assigned staff
Ability to work nights and weekends
Ability to travel for work related activities
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Ability to represent the Athletics Director when necessary
