The Assistant Director of Community Relations is responsible for planning, implementing and analyzing programs intended to increase the philanthropic involvement of NU coaches, staff and student-athletes, while generating publicity, nurturing local business and consumer relationships, and increasing overall credibility for Northwestern Department of Athletics and Recreation (NUDAR), its student-athletes and its individual teams.
Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
Implement community outreach programs with our coaches and student-athletes with local charities, hospitals, schools or similar entities; continuously recruiting volunteers to support outreach initiatives.
Process appropriate promotional activities forms with compliance office and academic services office to ensure all NCAA and institutional regulations are met.
Coordinate with various NUDAR departments to augment branding, ticket sales, and sponsorship efforts that promote Northwestern Athletics events and enhance joint community relations initiatives with new or existing NU partners.
Plan and execute special events with the Evanston and Northwestern communities including, but not limited to, Kits, Cats and Kids Block Party, picnic and movie night, staff community outreach day, and Evanston community lunches.
Facilitate all charitable donation requests submitted to NUDAR, obtain approval from the compliance office and follow up with these groups as potential group ticket sales clients.
Organize a number of youth-athlete initiative between our 19 intercollegiate sports teams and local communities. Work with community members and/or sponsors to offer student programming including participating in coach sponsored camps and clinics.
Coordinate the distribution of tickets by Northwestern alumni/donors to under-privileged communities in and around Evanston.
In conjunction with the Deputy AD for External Affairs, liaison with Evanston City officials and government employees to enhance and maintain neighborhood relations; specifically, the 7th Ward Alderman and Neighborhood Associations.
Work closely with the Northwestern University Executive Director for Neighborhood and Community Relations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
