The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is seeking its next General Manager for our Freedom Hall Civic Center. This position must demonstrate an exemplary customer service approach to internal and external stakeholders and have a strong commitment to public service. The Civic Center General Manager reports to the Assistant City Manager.
Successful candidates should possess the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to:
•Plans, organizes, recruits, and schedules events and programs that will appeal to a broad spectrum of interests and that will result in the maximum utilization of the Freedom Hall Civic Center facility.
•Contacts promoters and booking agents to utilize the civic center as a venue for holding trade shows, concerts, conventions, athletic events and other attractions.
•Develops and enforces policies, procedures, and rate structures for the operation of the Civic Center.
•Interviews and recommends applicants for hire for the operation of the facility; including seasonal employees.
•Directs concessions operations or third party contracts for such services.
•Prepares annual budget and capital improvements.
•Compiles various statistical data for use in analyzing arena efficiency and utilization.
•Supervises civic center and contract personnel in keeping the facility, parking areas, and surrounding grounds neat and the building properly maintained.
•Promotes positive public relations of the facility through marketing initiatives, civic and community outreach, and local and regional media outlets.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in business/public administration or related field. A minimum of 3-5 years of verifiable experience in the management and operation of a civic center or similar event facility is required.
