The AD provides leadership and direction of the day-to-day management and operation of Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts Commission to include booking, event production, guest services (including traffic/parking management), security, IT/communication, codes compliance, housekeeping, concessions, and facility maintenance.

Examples of Duties:
Evaluates existing policies and procedures and recommends improvements that will better reflect the needs of the Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts Commission and/or improve operational efficiency.
Assists the Director in booking events for the Coliseum, The American Theatre and The Charles H Taylor Arts Center.
Works collaboratively with the Director, Assistant Director of Finance and Administration, the Artistic Director and other personnel assigned to the Coliseum, The American Theatre and The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center in support of the mission and successful day-to-day operations and event schedule of each venue.
Assists the Director in monitoring events by tracking status of ticket sales, guest services, and production details.
Conducts pre-event meetings with clients and other division managers to collect, research, plan and organize events to ensure all specifications and requirements are met. Prepares and distributes event plans with detailed outlines and instructions.
Provides technical assistance to clients. Seeks approval from Public Safety authorities when required. Ensures that all events are executed safely and cost effectively for both the client and the venues.
Manages division personnel to include hiring, training, supervising, problem resolution, performance expectations and feedback, counseling and disciplinary actions.
Develops and implements policies and procedures for workplace safety, energy management, and inventory control to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Develops and implements an effective preventative maintenance plan for all venues to ensure that the building, equipment and grounds are in good repair, attractive in appearance and event-ready condition.
Attends events to ensure proper event plan implementation. Acts as public relations officer during events; responds to the needs of promoters and guests, and resolves any problems/conflicts as they arise. Deals with complaints following the event and maintains a file on problems and resolutions.
Supervises operational and guest services activities of the Food & Beverage division.
Assists the Director in developing and implementing the CIP Plan.
Provides input to the Operations budget and assists with monitoring of budget activities. Prepares and maintains reports and records as required.
Maintains a high level of visibility and actively participates, locally and regionally, in the public assembly facility industry and builds relationships with civic and business organizations.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, Facility Management or a related field. A Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Facility Management is preferred. IAVM Certified Venue Executive (CVE) designation preferred. Five (5) years of experience in a public assembly facility required, preferably in a multi-purpose arena or stadium, some of which has been at an executive management level. Three (3) years of experience in event production and guest services required. One (1) year of experience in event booking and talent buying preferred. Five (5) years of supervisory experience required. Knowledge of assembly facility industry trends and practices related to booking, event servicing and facility maintenance. Knowledge of budgeting procedures, cost analysis, and municipal accounting; techniques. Thorough knowledge of public assembly industry procedures, floor plans, building services, service contractors, operations and routine maintenance requirements. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for a safe facility environment.
Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts is a multi-venue department of the City of Hampton, VA consisting of Hampton Coliseum - a 13,000 seat arena, The American Theatre - a 388 seat performing arts center, and The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center - art exhibition gallery and instructional studio.
