PRIMARY DUTY: Under general supervision, manages operations of the Waco Convention Center for the Convention Center and Convention & Visitors Bureau (CC/CVB).

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manages Waco Convention Center functions and operations, including staff work schedules, maintenance, cleaning, setup and teardowns, budgets, purchasing.
Contribute to the development and monitoring of the annual budget and strategic plans for the department, including cost control measures and planning of future improvements.
Works in partnership with Sales/Events Services and Catering regarding venue scheduling, bookings and summary reports; works with clients and CC/CVB staff to plan events; prepares physical plans and floor plans for events.
Oversees Data, Account and Event Management in Ungerboeck operating software system. The system serves as an integrated building and operations management system used to manage room set-ups, reservations, service and operational deliverables to customers of the convention center.
Manages and trains assigned staff (13-15 team members); plans and manages work activities; plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; monitors work, develops staff skills and evaluates performance.
Oversees the use of temporary labor as needed.
Displays leadership in guest hospitality, exemplifies excellent customer service and creates a positive atmosphere for guest relations.
Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for facility maintenance and operations; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow and reporting relationships; inspect work product of subordinates to ensure accuracy and timeliness of completion; meet with staff to review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; identify and resolve challenges.
Serve as facility contact and ensure compliance with agreements.
Maintain new and existing inventory and replacement schedule.
Makes recommendations that impact the department budget.
Develop safety standards and periodically review facility emergency response plan.
Researches, reviews, recommends, and implements contractual and vendor services for convention center.
Ensures facility compliance with all applicable policies, laws, codes, regulations, ordinance, and directives.
Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work- related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
May be required to respond after hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
City policies and procedures.
State and Federal laws governing the conduct and safety of public facilities.
Principles and practices for planning and managing convention facilities and programs.
Ungerboeck Operating Management System a plus.
Business and personal computers and specialized software applications.
Supervising and coordinating municipal facility programs and event planning.
Analyzing problems, resolving disputes and conflicts and developing effective solutions.
Managing staff, delegating tasks and authority and coaching to improve staff performance.
Dealing tactfully and courteously with customers and providing effective and friendly customer service.
Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-wor
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Associate's Degree in Business or Public Administration, or related field is required; AND four years’ experience in public facility planning and management programs; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
