The University of Utah is seeking a Special Services Supervisor in the Athletics Department.
Plan, organize, and coordinate the activities associated with game management operations in athletic facilities. Work irregular schedules, as required, to ensure proper supervision of all events and activities scheduled in the athletics facilities.
Interact with department and university personnel in regards to administrative procedures, facility policies, and operational procedures of the athletic facilities
Serve as Event Manager for all for sports, as assigned.
Create an event plan with home and visiting teams, equipment managers, trainers, athletic communications, marketing, Crimson Club Athletics Fund, ticketing, facilities and variety of other departments.
Coordinate with University Police, University Parking & Transportation, University Enterprise Risk Management, University Community Relations, City Fire & EMS, City Police on event needs.
Negotiate terms of contracts for tents, scaffolding and other rental equipment needed to support the events.
Create event staffing plans for all groups that are focused on life safety, customer service, NCAA rules and regulations, PAC 12 rules and regulations, University rules and regulations all while being fiscally responsibility.
Know, interpret, and execute local, state and national fire life safety code as it pertains to setting up and carrying out events. Evaluate and determine when an event must be stopped and the venue needs to be evacuated.
Develop and implement Emergency Evacuation plan as necessary and make immediate decisions and coordinate communications with department staff and spectators in an emergency situation, including evacuation, ejections, clearing of fire aisles, maintaining proper capacities, while directing event staff and working with public safety and fire life safety officials if they are on site.
Know NCAA and PAC 12 rules and regulations as it is stipulated by the NCAA and conference manuals and handbooks. Act as the NCAA and conference site rep for regular season and post-season competition.
Direct event staff and emergency/life safety staff on site regarding NCAA compliance rules, life safety regulations, weather delay/evacuation procedures and guest services.
Direct response to weather delays or any incident that may disrupt competition including interpretation of weather information/incident, stoppage of the competition, and negotiation of restarting of play as laid out by the NCAA, Pac 12 and Utah Athletic safety guidelines.
Create operational plans for arena traffic management.
Coordinate with, and advise University Police and Parking & Transportation to develop traffic and parking plans for arena events.
Direct event staff and emergency/life safety staff on site regarding life safety regulations, weather delay/evacuation procedures, and guest services. Track, summarize and defend event expenses for outside events in preparation of financial settlement.
Ensures all events are conducted in accordance with university, local, state and federal regulations.
Other duties or projects as defined by supervisor.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency required (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
