Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director of Development/Major Gifts. This position is responsible for securing major gifts for the Division of Athletics and the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation. Responsibilities include raising funds to support a broad-based athletics program at Western Kentucky University. Position reports to the Director of Athletics. Primary Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Develop relationships with donors and potential donors to solicit and close gifts in support of capital projects, scholarship endowments, annual fund operations and sport specific funds
Build and manage an appropriate portfolio of donors capable of making major gifts of $25,000 or more
Coordination and management of WKU Athletics Major Gift Program to include: donor acquisition and qualification, cultivation, and stewardship strategy
Responsible for making 10-12 visits per month designed to move prospects toward making a philanthropic commitment. Maintains appropriate contact with prospects and records all contact details in University Advancement management system
Assists in developing and executing an annual fundraising plan for athletics, with a primary emphasis on increasing the number of donors and dollars raised for the HAF
Participates in major gift meetings within the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement division
Meets regularly with the senior administration to assess projects, review strategies and track progress toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks
Provides oversight and coordination of sport specific enhancement funds including cultivation of student-athlete alumni, parents, and friends for sport specific giving
Position requires frequent travel and evening and weekend work
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success
Excellent verbal and written communication Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with individuals and groups Experience in Advance donor software along with Archtics/Ticketmaster ticketing system preferred
Must be a goal oriented self-starter who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree
At least five years of experience in direct fundraising in the solicitation and closing of gifts or transferable, related experience in marketing, public relations, alumni relations, or sales.
