Description: The Assistant Director of Compliance serves as a member of the compliance team. The Assistant Director works in conjunction with the Compliance Office staff to implement NCAA, SEC, and University of Tennessee rules and regulations. The Assistant Director provides interpretations of NCAA and SEC legislation to coaches, administrators, student-athletes and boosters as needed. The Assistant Director also serves as a liaison between the Compliance Office and coaching staffs, sport administrators and other University entities.
Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as Bylaw Practitioner for NCAA Bylaw 13 (Recruiting): Monitor and document legislative requirements and procedural matters related to NCAA Bylaw 13 for all sports including, but not limited to: - Official Visits - Unofficial Visits - Telephone Logs and communications - Contacts and Evaluations - Assist with interpretive inquiries of NCAA and SEC legislation and University policies related to NCAA Bylaw 13 - NCAA and SEC waiver requests related to NCAA Bylaw 13 - Processing of NCAA Level III violations related to NCAA Bylaw 13
Assist as Bylaw Practitioner for NCAA Bylaw 15 (Financial Aid): Monitor and document legislative requirements and procedural matters related to NCAA Bylaw 15 for all sports including, but not limited to: - Initial and overall counters - Producing National Letters of Intent, SEC and Institutional Athletics Financial Aid agreements - Roster management - Liaison with campus financial aid and bursar offices - Reductions and cancellations of aid - Financial Aid from Outside Sources - Processing other institutional academic awards
Serve as Sport Facilitator for assigned sports and administrative offices. Duties include: - Respond to interpretive inquiries of NCAA and SEC legislation and University policies related to Sport and Administrative Facilitator assignments - Prepare and submit NCAA and SEC waiver requests related to Sport and Administrative Facilitator assignments including athletics activity waivers, extension of eligibility waivers, hardship waivers, initial-eligibility waivers, legislative relief waivers, progress-toward-degree waivers, and season of competition/participation waivers - Investigate and file NCAA Level III violations related to Sport and Administrative Facilitator assignments - Process student-athlete reinstatement requests related to Sport and Administrative Facilitator assignments - Conduct and document rules education meetings with coaches, staff members and student-athletes for Sport and Administrative Facilitator assignments - Conduct and document Beginning and End of the Year team meetings related to Sport Facilitator assignments
Assist with operation of player-guest and prospective student-athlete ticket lists as determined by the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance
Assist with monthly all-staff compliance educational meetings
Other duties as assigned
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required; Master’s Degree in Sport Administration, MBA (related field may be substituted) or Juris Doctorate Degree (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of 1-3 years in NCAA administration or compliance. One year of Graduate Assistantship experience may be substituted for six months of professional experience.
Experience working with student-athletes, coaches and officials regarding compliance issues.
Working knowledge of FrontRush, Teamworks and Banner is preferred.
Experience with NCAA Bylaws 13 (Recruiting) and 15 (Financial Aid) is preferred.
A strong understanding of the rules and regulations associated with the NCAA and SEC programs is preferred.
Working knowledge of LSDBi and the NCAA Eligibility Center is preferred.
