The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Data and Business Analytics to align solutions with business initiatives.
The Assistant Director of Data and Business Analytics will be primarily responsible for understanding business and technical processes in order to turn data into actionable business decisions. This position will drive business value including but not limited to: developing analyses for key revenue generating areas of Virginia Athletics including ticketing, merchandising, donations, and premium seating. The position will provide key insights and supporting data for existing initiatives as well as utilizing data-driven recommendations to support growth.
Responsibilities include:
Develop predictive/statistical modeling, data science, market research and visualizations while developing algorithms to maximize revenue and optimize overall business performance.
Design new and innovative analytical solutions to predict customer behaviors and recommend actions to drive desired outcomes as well as research key trends of revenue generating areas, including segmentation and testing tactics.
Help administer CRM system and train/assist system users.
Create timely and compelling dashboards and visualizations for key stakeholders via the department’s business intelligence solution.
Manage lead collection, cleansing and scoring initiatives for ticketing.
Examine sales statistics and suggest methods for generating profitable growth.
Work with data warehouse vendor to ensure data timeliness and accuracy.
Evaluate new technologies and data sources for revenue generating and time/cost savings potential.
Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed to answer specific business questions and produce actionable insights.
Fully document work processes and activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong knowledge of quantitative analyses such as predictive modeling, customer profiling and segmentation, financial modeling and other types of analysis.
Strong proficiency in SQL or similar relational database management system, and experience with formal CRM systems in an enterprise setting.
Proficiency with analytic tools such as Tableau (preferred), Power BI, R, and Python.
Ability to gather, organize, evaluate, and disseminate a sizable amount of data while paying close attention to correctness and detail.
Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
Excellent organizational and communications skills.
Strong strategic thinking.
Ability to work both independently and in teams.
Ability to effectively prioritize, meet deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
Able to develop and maintain successful working relationships in a team environment with both technical and business stakeholders.
This role is a limited-term, full-time, benefited University Managerial and Professional Staff position funded by external sources. The intention, while not guaranteed, is to renew this position yearly. This is exempt-level position is eligible for the University's benefits package. Employees' benefits package highlights include:

Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline
Experience: At least one year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree
Experience: 1-3 years of work experience in business operations requiring analysis, statistics, and/or strategy.
