Merrimack College, a Division 1 member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Northeast Conference (NEC) and Hockey East Association (HEA) is currently seeking candidates for Graduate Assistants in Athletics Operations for the 2025 – 2026 academic year.
The Athletics Graduate Assistant will assist in the day-to-day responsibilities of the Athletic Department while enrolled in one of two Masters of Science programs in Health Sciences. The candidate will perform a number of administrative duties depending on which area, including, but not limited to assisting with event management, team travel, game operations, facility management, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. The candidate will emerge from the assistantship with the necessary background and experience to be qualified to become a full-time administrator in collegiate athletics.
This is a nine month accelerated academic and experiential program with a 50%-100% reduction in graduate tuition awarded to successful candidates. In order to be considered for a fellowship you must apply to one of our two Masters of Science programs and be accepted for a fellowship.
Sample of position responsibilities:
Complete coursework toward your Master of Science degree while getting real world job experience
Assist with practice and game scheduling
Help coordinate travel arrangements for varsity, club and intramural teams
Assist in training student worker staff
Participate in weekly Athletic Department and Building Staff meeting
Act as game manager for various athletic events
Help ensure all athletic buildings, fields and arenas are well maintained
Conduct inventory checks of all game operations equipment
Be a liaison for visiting teams, officials and fans coming to campus
Work directly with other departments such as Marketing and Ticketing, Athletic Communications, External Affairs, Compliance, Sports Medicine, among others
Position Requirements:
Must apply and be accepted into one of our Master of Science programs in the Health Sciences Fellowship Program: M.S. in Exercise and Sport Science or M.S. in Health Promotion and Management
Knowledge of collegiate athletics or sports management background preferred
Availability to work nights and weekends
Communication, organizational, and time management skills
Proficiency in Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Office
Have a valid driver’s license
